The chupas is blamed in the deaths of dozens of turkeys, rabbits, goats, cats, dogs
and even horses and cows...Said to have ripped open the bedroom window of a house in the
north-central city of Caguas, destroyed a stuffed teddy bear, and left a puddle of slime
and a piece of rancid white meat on the windowsill. It had hairy arms and huge red eyes.
In another attack it came at about 7 a.m. "It just showed up and -- poof -- it

Many small mammels, dogs, etc. have met with this tall "animal"-like being
with three toed feet and hands, on haunches with the fore arms suspended at chest level
very similar to a kangaroo. It has a row of spikes or straight feather like projections
from it's head and
down it's back that raise and lower and have been seen to glow with their own light.
Has
been seen to take off on all fours. The "sucking " device seems to be a tube

La Prensa de Nicaragua,
by Maricely Linarte and Clarissa Altamirano, Special Correspondents
Specialists described the animal as an uncommon species after a careful examination of its
skeleton. It presents yellow hair on its short tail, large eye-sockets, soft skin like
that of a bat, large claws and fangs, and a crest on its main vertebrae. Could this be the
Chupacabras? A team of biologists and veterinarians from Leon must now answer the
question.
LEON.- the skeleton of the animal that slaked
its thirst with the blood of sheep on the San Lorenzo farm, owned by Jorge Luis Talavera
and located at Km. 154 of Malpaisillo, was found in the early morning hours of monday some
80 meters away from the paddock where it procured its victims.
"The creature could be a hybrid of several species, created in a laboratory by means
of genetic engineering," noted Giocconda Chevez, Malpaisillo's veterinarian.
Jorge Talavera explained that three days ago he opened fire against the alleged
Chupacabras using a shotgun, causing its death and resuting in its flesh being devoured by
vultures. The creature was in an advancedstate of decomposition by the time it was
discovered. "We had to kill it. In 15 days it sucked 25 sheep, and my neighbor lost
35 sheep in 10 days. It was an average of 5 sheep and goats a night," he explained.
Captain Leonardo Carmona, head of the Malpaisillo Crime Lab, indicated that the animal's
remains are to be studied at the Hospital Escuela de Leon (Leon Teaching Hospital), where
veterinarians and biologists shall be on hand to examine it, according to a report by
Edgard Orozco, who is in charge of the Department of Forensic Medicine. |

MANAGUA, Nicaragua - A team of university scientists has ruled that a mysterious
skeleton recovered in northern Nicaragua is that of an ordinary dog rather than
the feared and fabled chupacabras, a sort of Latin American cross between the
Abominable Snowman and Count Dracula, which is said to suck the blood out of livestock.
The Discovery this week set off an uproar that had one Nicaraguan churchman warning the
end of the world was at hand, while journalists called from as far away as Australia for
details.
But biologists and zoologists from the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua campus
in Leon who examined the skeleton said it was not a cross between a wolf and a crocodile,
as some local agricultural officials had described it, but just a dog.
The explanation didn't sit well with Jose Luis Talavera, the farmer who claims to have
shot the beast and could now lose his notoriety as a Chupacabras Slayer.
"That animal that was discovered in that rural zone was different than a mere
dog," insisted Talavera. "Its teeth were rose-colored. It reared up on its hind
legs and sucked the blood from at least 120 sheep."
Talavera discovered the skeleton in the mouth of a cave Aug. 28 near his farm about 45
miles northwest of Managua.

February 10, 2003
Fajardo, Puerto Rico
The fearsome animal known as "Chupacabras" reappeared in a central sector of
Fajardo where it allegedly slew two rabbits, "sucking" all of their blood, and
leaving a goat at deaths door. Domingo Ramos, 70, told Police that he had witnessed
the macabre activity of the Chupacabras as it killed his rabbits and tried to drain his
goats blood. As of the close of this edition, the animal was still alive with what
little blood remained in its body.
The time was around 2:00 a.m. Monday when Domingo, residing at Fajardos Desvío
Street, heard a "ruckus" out by his rabbit cages and when he looked through the
window, was appalled by the sight of a giant bird with large wings and bulging eyes
slaking its thirst with his animals blood. The bird, which Domingo said could
measure over 5 feet in height, practically attacked his goat in a single motion and
drained its blood by biting near the heart.
The "Chupacabras" jumped and flew off toward parts unknown as Domingo began
shouting. In an exclusive interview with EL VOCERO, Domingo compared the
"Chupacabra" with a gigantic "guaraguao" (falcon) but with a
practically human face.
This case was then investigated by the Puerto Rico Police as yet another in which it is
alleged that the animal dubbed "Chupacabras" has attacked domestic animals on
the islands
eastern reaches.

CHUPACABRAS RUN WILD IN PUERTO RICO
"Some 20 rabbits were found dead yesterday (Saturday, February 22, 2003) in some
cages of the barrio Ollas of Santa Isabel," near Ponce, Puerto Rico.
"Residents accused the Chupacabras of perpetrating the brutal slayings."
"The incident allegedly occurred in the early hours of the morning in the backyard of
the house owned by William Maldonado Sanchez. There were several rabbit cages at the site,
but the only cages attacked were the ones containing female specimens."
"Maldonado's neighbors claim having heard noises coming from the backyard at around 1
a.m. but didn't notice anything strange. Maldonado did not blame the Chupacabras for the
events--he said that something strange had happened in the backyard; only four of the
rabbits showed signs of violence; one of the four had a wound on the neck; another two had
abdominal injuries; and another had scratches on its paw. Some of the rabbits were found
dead in the cages; others on the ground near the entrance of the house. The male rabbits
were spared, he says, because their cage was stronger."
"Maldonado Sanchez, who phoned the police to report the incident, explained that he
had female rabbits for purposes of raising the animals commercially...It was reported
yesterday that a (foot) print with three prominent indentations was found under one of his
cages."
On Friday, February 21, 2003, "Channel 4 (TV) reported animal mutilations in La
Cuchilla de Candelero Debaso in Humacao," a port city on the eastern shore of Puerto
Rico.
"The television report states that an unknown animal killed all of the pigs in their
pens and ripped apart 9 male rabbits, leaving one female alone. It was also noted that a
duck survived the assault."
"Eyewitnesses were only able to see a shadowy form that ran away. At the scene of
that incident, it was possible to recover a plaster cast of a feline paw print. The print
is in the custody of the (Puerto Rican) Department of Natural Resources. The (Channel 4)
video documentary also shows scratches on the pens' wooden parts which were apparently
made by the animal in question."
"The Channel 4 report was prepared by Epron Arroyo and photojournalist Humberto
Mercado Nazario. (The reader must be aware that there are no predatory feline species
native to Puerto Rico--S.C.)"
"Another incident took place during the early hours of (Monday) February 17 (2003) in
a neighborhood in the city of Anasco on Puerto Rico's western coast. In this event, 26
rabbits were mutilated, presenting different injuries. Some of them were torn apart."
"An elderly man reported hearing shrill squeals and the sensation that a humanoid
form was leaping over the rooftops. Another witness reported not hearing any sounds, but
that his dogs were nervous and frightened to such an extent that they hid under the
bed." (See the Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia for February 23, 2003,
"Intriguing death of 20 rabbits." Muchas gracias a Scott Corrales, Dr. Jose I.

The Onion
LUBBOCK, TXWill Reiser, an expert in the field of unsubstantiated creatures, was
duped again Tuesday, when he said he'd finally found proof of the existence of the elusive
Chupacabra, a quill-covered creature that feasts on the blood of livestock. "The
right shank of the goat carcass I discovered on my doorstep bore the Chupacabra's
distinctive cross-hatched fang pattern," Reiser said. "I have to say I'm
surprised that the quills poking out of the body so closely resemble those of the hedgehog
indigenous to this area." Reiser's next-door neighbor, Dan Swelter, is currently
laughing his ass off. |
August, 2007
In August 2007, Phylis Canion found three animals in Cuero, Texas. She and her neighbors
purported to have discovered three strange animal carcasses outside Canion's property. She
took photographs of the carcasses and preserved the head of one in her freezer before
turning it over for DNA analysis. Canion reported that nearly 30 chickens on her farm had
been exsanguinated over a period of years, a factor which led her to connect the carcasses
with the chupacabra legend. State Mammologist John Young estimated that the animal in
Canion's pictures was a Gray Fox suffering from an extreme case of mange. In November
2007, biology researchers at Texas State UniversitySan Marcos determined from DNA
samples that the suspicious animal was merely a coyote. |
